China Should ‘Acknowledge the Truth’ About Tiananmen, Taiwan President Says

TAIPEI, June ⁠4 (Reuters) – ⁠China should “acknowledge ⁠the truth” about ​what happened 37 ‌years ago on ‌Beijing’s ⁠Tiananmen ⁠Square, Taiwan President Lai Ching-te ​said on Thursday on the ​anniversary of an event ⁠Beijing ⁠treats as ⁠taboo.

“I sincerely ​hope that China can ​face ⁠up to the June 4 ⁠incident of 37 years ago, acknowledge the ⁠truth, soothe the pain, and open the door to reconciliation and dialogue,” Lai said in ⁠a post on his Facebook page.
