June 3 (Reuters) – Republican Jim Desmond, a county supervisor and Democrat Marni von Wilpert are projected to advance to the November general election after Tuesday’s open primary for California’s 48th congressional district, U.S. media said.
The seat was left vacant after Republican incumbent Darrell Issa opted against seeking re-election when the Southern California district was redrawn to favor Democrats as a result of the voter-approved redistricting initiative Proposition 50, with partisan control of the U.S. House of Representatives at stake on Nov. 3.
